What famous historical figure’s favorite gemstone was peridot?
According to legend peridot was one of the favorite gemstones of Cleopatra and that some of her “emeralds” were actually peridot. It’s been mined as a gemstone for thousands of years, and is mentioned in the Bible under the name of chrysolite.
Peridot is believed to bring good luck, peace, and success. Its alleged powers include health, protection, improve sleep to attract love and calm anger & nerves and dispels negative emotions.
Gem quality peridot comes from Arizona, Burma, Norway, islands in the Red Sea, Hawaii and is sometimes found in meteorites.
The official birthstone for the month of August is Peridot. It also may be given as a gem on the 16th wedding anniversary.
